Platelet-rich plasma therapy, shortly known as PRP, has become a popular method for restoring hair growth and is an effective treatment meant for hair loss problems that can help achieve exceptional results. It triggers the growth of hair naturally by addressing the essential needs and requirements of the scalp, namely the hair follicles. This is done by providing the scalp and hair follicles the growth factor that is extracted from your own blood.

This process of providing your scalp the growth factor from your blood is done by using injection methods, which are extremely superficial (1.0-1.5mm) at the level of your hair follicles. This treatment is done by our well trained and experienced doctors after numbing cream is applied on the scalp for 40 mins to ensure your comfort. When we inject PRP into the scalp, the formula stimulates the stem cells at the root of your hair which activates the hair follicles again.

Injections are very superficial(1.0 - 1.5mm) at the level of the hair folicles and administered by trained doctors after numbing cream is applied on the scalp for 40 mins to ensure client's comfort. When we inject PRP into the scalp, it actually stimulates the stem cells in the hair root that turn on the hair follicle again.

What is the function of plasma and platelets?

Plasma is a component of your blood that contains special “factors,” or proteins, that helps your blood to clot. It also contains proteins that support cell growth. It plays an important role in blood coagulation by transporting blood cells, hormones, and other nutrients to your hair follicles. Plasma is also the main component in treating various health problems as it contains proteins and antibodies.

On the other hand, platelets are a component of your blood as well, alongside your red and white blood cells, which is necessary for blood clotting, healing functions and cell regeneration. In fact, it contributes largely to healing the body naturally.

Platelets are produced from very large bone marrow cells called megakaryocytes. Besides that, the proteins present in platelets looks similar to muscle proteins thereby helping to gain more advantages of repair and regeneration.

How does PRP Platelet-rich Plasma Therapy work?

PRP Platelet-rich Plasma Therapy utilizes superficial injections on the scalp that involves drawing blood from a person’s body and processing it through a centrifuge machine to separate the blood components. The process takes 10-15 minutes. Doctors will then inject them into the scalp that increases blood supply to hair follicles. Apart from that, the injections will enhance the thickness of hair shafts with optimal results.

Occasionally, our hair specialists might recommend ultrasound imaging and other procedures to find the areas which suit the injections. Since they have more concentration levels of platelets, they will speed up the healing process effectively.

This therapy treatment lasts one or two hours(including numbing) based on hair conditions allowing patients to maintain hair in good condition.

However, PRP might not be a cure for every hair loss problem as we need to determine the causes or conditions of hair loss. One should consult with a hair specialist before undergoing a procedure.

How to get ready for the PRP Platelet-rich Plasma Therapy injections?

There are different preparation methods used before performing the PRP Platelet-rich Plasma Therapy injections. For instance, our doctors may suggest lidocaine solution or tropical anesthesia to the scalp before the injection process. It is advisable for the patients to wash their hair prior(our clinic provides hair washing facilities as well) and reach early for a treatment session for applying the numbing solution.

Furthermore, a patient should avoid taking corticosteroid medications 2 to 3 weeks prior to the treatment process.

Patients should consume plenty of fluids the day before performing a procedure as this can help achieve better results. At the same time, candidates who suffer from anxiety/anxiousness may consider taking medications that helps to reduce anxiousness. In addition, they should stop taking on-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs or arthritis drugs, a week before the treatment. In most cases, our doctors will review the overall health conditions of our patients to determine if a person is eligible for the treatment or not.

Patients should rest for a few days after undergoing the therapy treatment. There are instances where some people may experience pain up to a week, post treatment. Such cases are usually rare.

On the other hand, our qualified doctors will recommend medications accordingly to ensure our that patients go through a smooth post-treatment recovery process. Recovery time varies between one individual and the other as ever candidate has a different rate of recovery.

Things to consider in PRP Platelet-rich Plasma Therapy

Patients should keep these considerations in mind before undergoing a PRP therapy. These considerations include how experienced the surgeons are in performing PRP therapy, the various facilities available in a clinic, success rates, and cost. It is wise to compare the services of surgeons and consider them especially when they are specialized in hair loss treatments and in performing PRP treatments specifically for the scalp.

Do note that a surgeon who has done PRP Platelet-rich Plasma Therapy treatments on the face or other parts of the body may not necessarily be specialized in performing PRP treatments on the scalp.

The scalp is much more delicate than other parts of the body and requires more experienced and highly skilled doctors to perform. Patients are able to make more informed decisions by doing some research.

The therapy is not advisable for those are already completely become bald. Candidates who have issues such as thyroid, low platelets, cancer, etc are also not advised to go through PRP therapy. Call our doctors to find out more.

What are the advantages of PRP Platelet-rich Plasma Therapy?

PRP therapy is a suitable for increasing hair follicles and restoring volume to your hair. The therapy gives solutions that thicken the hair with effective results while having no risk of rejection or chemical reaction to your own blood.

A recent study revealed that PRP will do major wonders for both men and women who have balding problems. The therapy gives ways to stimulate the hair growth with minimal pain and also requires zero recovery time. It even contributes more to the growth of stem cells and other cells in the hair follicles to grow hair and strengthen hair roots to prevent hair loss.

At our clinic, we often also combine PRP therapy with scalp micro-needling, micro-infusion and infra-red high frequency therapy to further stimulate hair growth. We also have laser light therapy, meridian points activation to enhance blood circulation, and other natural plant-based treatments/home remedies that you can use in-between treatments to balance and promote healthy scalp without the risks of side effects.

We have specially chosen these treatments as they have close to no down-time and no side effects.

  1. I’ve been losing hair ever since college, that’s why I’ve been looking for ways on how I can have my hair back. It’s great to know that PRP Hair Therapy can help with the increase in hair follicles. I hope this is effective enough because I’m planning to have this type of therapy.
